Exercise Rehabilitation

Exercise Rehabilitation

Your exercise program is part of your treatment plan and can easily be performed at home. It is specifically tailored to your needs to help you manage your condition and to strengthen your muscles, tendons and joints.

What does exercise rehabilitation involve?

After your first visit you will receive an exercise prescription via an easy to follow app called PhysiApp with useful videos and instructions to each exercise. The exercises are tailored to your specific goals and needs. Depending on your goals, these will involve stretching, mobility drills, strengthening exercises or breathing techniques. You do not need any equipment other than a mat. You will be given a resistance band if it's required for your exercises.

I'm not sure if I'm doing the exercises correctly

If you are new to exercises it can be daunting to get going. Good technique is essential and could mean all the difference in terms of benefitting from it or just spending time doing something. This is why I'm offering one to one exercise rehabilitation to provide feedback on your technique and educate you about normal movement patterns, including how to correct your sitting and standing posture to avoid repetitive overload of tissues that may eventually lead to pain and injury.

The exercises are causing me pain

There can be two main reasons for this. It may be that your condition, such as an inflamed joint, is causing your pain. If the pain is between
2-3/10 (with 10 being the worst pain) and you find that it is subsiding as you continue your repetitions, it is advised to 'push through' the initial discomfort as you may find that by the end of your set it will resolve. If you feel a sharp or catching pain, it is best to stop and feedback to your practitioner so it can be reviewed and modified as necessary.

Should I stop the exercises once my symptoms resolved?

This is a common question and a lot of my clients tell me the story where they stopped exercising because their pain went away. Only to find that the same problem returned. Remember, movement = medicine. Your body is designed to move, so aim to not only keep up with the program after your symptoms have resolved, but try to engage in a more active lifestyle. Doing regular activities is the best way to prevent reoccurring injuries and to ensure that you stay healthy, vibrant and full of energy.
